Steve joined CEI-PEA as the Director of Professional Development in October 1998. Steve worked in public education for more than thirty years as a teacher, supervisor, principal and district administrator for special education in East Harlem's Community School District 4. He designed, successfully implemented and administered reading, literacy and mathematics programs for thousands of New York City students. Steve served as Special Assistant to the Chancellor of the New York City Board of Education where he designed Chancellor Rudy Crew's Special Education Reform Plan. Steve also served on Mayor David Dinkins' Committee for People with Disabilities and was on the panel of New York City's Commission on Youth.
Steve passed away suddenly pm March 14th. He was a unique and powerful force for improving public education in New York City, particularly for children with special needs. He will be deeply missed.
